“Curses” of the Law Vs “Curse” of the Law
Most people are confused with these two terms, Curse of the law and the Curses of the law! What is the difference? “The Curse” of the Law refers to being cut off (KARET) from the Lord and having one’s name blotted out, which is eternal separation from HASHEM.
When Paul writes in Galatians 3:13 “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us (because it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”)”, he was referring to the “eternal damnation”. This is what happens when a person willfully chooses death over life. What Paul was telling us is that since Yeshua has become the object of the Curse of the Law on our behalf, one who trusts in the sacrifice of Yeshua will not have to worry about the prospect of eternal separation from the Lord hanging over his shoulders for his sins.
Unfortunately, according to Paul, for those who have NOT accepted the sacrifice of Yeshua, the Curse of the Law hangs over their heads like the Grim Reaper. In the New Testament terms, “the curse of the law” and “the wages of sin is death” are talking about the very same thing.
Now, the “curses of the law” are still in operation as they represent the consequences or individual penalties for breaking the Lord’s commands. The ‘Curses’ Of The Law really mean the ‘CONSEQUENCES’ for breaking the Law. The list of curses is simply the list of prescribed punishments one will suffer for any one of the various acts of rebellion against the Lord.
